Midsized firms are upbeat about the U.S. economy, but cautious about hiring and capital spending—except for IT systems seen as necessary for productivity and growth. Even as their confidence in the U.S. economy remains strong, many midmarket companies are moderating their spending with the notable exception of information technology investments.
